چکیده

iener theory, formulated by Norbert Wiener, forms the foundation of data-dependent linear least square error filters. Wiener filters play a central role in a wide range of applications such as linear prediction, echo cancellation, signal restoration, channel equalisation and system identification. The coefficients of a Wiener filter are calculated to minimise the average squared distance between the filter output and a desired signal. In its basic form, the Wiener theory assumes that the signals are stationary processes. However, if the filter coefficients are periodically recalculated for every block of N signal samples then the filter adapts itself to the average characteristics of the signals within the blocks and becomes block-adaptive. A block-adaptive (or segment adaptive) filter can be used for signals such as speech and image that may be considered almost stationary over a relatively small block of samples. In this chapter, we study Wiener filter theory, and consider alternative methods of formulation of the Wiener filter problem. We consider the application of Wiener filters in channel equalisation, time-delay estimation and additive noise reduction. A case study of the frequency response of a Wiener filter, for additive noise reduction, provides useful insight into the operation of the filter. We also deal with some implementation issues of Wiener filters.

Analysis of Wavelet–domain Wiener Filters

We investigate Wiener filtering of wavelet coefficients for signal denoising. Empirically designed wavelet-domain Wiener filters have superior performance over other denoising algorithms using wavelet thresholding. However, it is not clear how we should choose the signal model that is used to design the filter, because the effect of model selection on the filter performance was hard to understa...

Edge Preserved Speckle Noise Reduction Using Integrated Fuzzy Filters

Echocardiographic images are inherent with speckle noise which makes visual reading and analysis quite difficult. The multiplicative speckle noise masks finer details, necessary for diagnosis of abnormalities. A novel speckle reduction technique based on integration of geometric, wiener, and fuzzy filters is proposed and analyzed in this paper. The denoising applications of fuzzy filters are st...

Qualitative evaluation of filter function in brain SPECT [Persian]

Introduction: Filtering can greatly affect the quality of clinical images. Determining the best filter and the proper degree of smoothing can help to ensure the most accurate diagnosis. Methods: Forty five patient’s data aquired during brain phantom SPECT studies were reconstructed using filtered back-projection technique. Noisy audio speech enhancement using Wiener filters derived from visual speech

The aim of this paper is to use visual speech information to create Wiener filters for audio speech enhancement. Wiener filters require estimates of both clean speech statistics and noisy speech statistics. Noisy speech statistics are obtained from the noisy input audio while obtaining clean speech statistics is more difficult and is a major problem in the creation of Wiener filters for speech ...

Transmit Wiener Filter for the Downlink of TDD DS-CDMA Systems

We derive the transmit Wiener filter for DS-CDMA systems which depends upon the noise power at the receivers. We show that the transmit Wiener filter converges to the transmit matched filter and the transmit zero-forcing filter for low and high signal-to-noiseratio, respectively. Simulation results show the superiority of the transmit Wiener filter compared to the other two transmit filters. Mo...
